How does this work?

let x = 0.99999.....

this means
10x = 9.99999....
then
10x - x = 9.99999.... - 0.9999.....
which results in
9x = 9
which means
x = 1

but we defined x = 0.9999....
so how can 0.99999.... = 1 ??

make sense???
