How does this work?

let x = 0.99999.....

this means
10x = 9.99999....
then
10x - x = 9.99999.... - 0.9999.....
which results in
9x = 9
which means
x = 1

but we defined x = 0.9999....
so how can 0.99999.... = 1 ??

make sense???

which means

I am not a mathematician but an engineer and my proving skill is very poor.

Yes, the problem is that when .999999....is multiplied by 10, you will lose one decimal place. Therefore even if n before, now it is n-1. That changes it from 9 to essentially 8.9999...

Again I am not a mathematician but I believe that that is how it works.
